A Local Move is usually a move that takes place within a 100-200 mile radius, and is often within your county. Local Moves do NOT involve leaving your current State. The cost for Local Moves is based upon the number of workers, the time it takes to move your belongings and the drive time between your old and new residence.
Other Factors that may determine the cost:
Packing is a major issue. The more you pack yourself - the more you save on labor, time and packing materials. In fact you may find it less costly to buy packing materials from a supply store rather than from your moving company the day of your move.
Save the mover time at the destination - be ready to tell the workers what is going where.
Mark all of your boxes with identification: children's names, "office", "living room", "kitchen", ect.
The more correct the information you provide your mover when he is quoting you, the better your chances are to have a smooth and "on budget" move.
Tips to Select a Local Company:
Insurance: request that the mover place a copy of their insurance form together with the estimate form. Licensed moving companies are required to provide limited liability at no additional cost. Additional coverage may be purchased for a premium.
References: we strongly recommend you ask your mover to provide you with recent written (1-2 months back) references. Take the time to call!!
Licensing: Check with your county to see if a mover is required to be licensed. If so, make sure to ask about the mover you are planning to hire.
Many people choose a mover based solely upon price. It is not necessarily the right thing to do. Remember... You get what you are paying for!!!
